Y U So Like Dat? A Crash Course on
Decoding Gen Y

Are you asking that question through your gritted teeth and with clenched fists? Relax --- you are not alone! Chances are, that question has crossed your mind many times about your Gen Y subordinates and colleagues.

Managing Gen Y employees can be perplexing and bewildering. You wonder what is really going in their minds, and why they are wired so differently. On some days, you wonder if they are from another planet altogether --- and on a really bad day, you wonder if you can send them back there!

So, what's a smart people manager to do? Here are your options. You can:

  • Ignore the fact that they are not meeting your expectations
  • Close your eyes to the fact that they are flouting the rules and norms of the workplace (and upsetting your other employees)
  • Decide not to employ any more Gen Ys, regardless of their strengths and merits
  • Or you can update and upgrade your managerial skills, and widen your repertoire to include managing Gen Y.

Reality Check: Gen Ys are here to stay

Here's the reality, and it may sound like bad news for the rest of us: Like it or not, this issue with Gen Y is not going to go away. In fact, if anything, this issue will only increase in proportion and magnitude.

Why? Because the universities and schools are churning out Gen Y graduates by the thousands every year! Today, they are aged 26 and below, working at entry-level positions, and already they are rocking the boat and breaching our cherished workplace norms and conventions. What will happen to your organisation when they reach middle management in a few years' time?

If you think the blips and ripples caused by the recent entry of Gen Y are bad, you are in for a rough ride. This is nothing compared to what we will see in a few year's time. The question smart people managers ask themselves is, "What can I do about the future --- today?"

What can you do about it?

Plenty! Let's take a look at what other smart people managers are doing:

  • They are waking up to the idea that managing Gen Y is not an option, but essential for their organization's human capital strategy.
  • They are getting up to speed on Gen Y and making a special effort to understand and manage them.
  • They are realising that getting a grip on managing Gen Y is essential to their own sanity and effectiveness.

You may protest, "But I didn't have to do that for the other staff. Why do I need to put in a special effort for Gen Y?" The short answer - because they are so different from the rest of us!)

Get up to speed --- or get left behind!

To help you get up to speed quickly on this new phenomenon that is literally changing our workplace and the way we work, LifeWorkz has designed a crash course on understanding and managing Gen Y employees. In just half a day, you will finally 'get' them, understand their worldview and know how to motivate, manage and get the best from them.

How much time are you willing to invest to solve your Gen Y issues Or to upgrade your managerial skills? 3 days? 1 full day? Now, what if you could get a quick and comprehensive update in just 2 or 3 hours? Now you can!

"Y U So Like Dat" is designed as a crash course for busy managers. In half a day, we will give you all that you need to know about your Gen Y subordinates and colleagues.
